Cruise Port Proposal

Cruise Port Proposal

August, 01, 2006

Victor Finamore

Born in the 1970s, the modern cruise industry now counts more than 400 ships offering cruises tailored too many budgets and whims — from luxury ships sailing the Mediterranean Sea to mass-market holidays in the Caribbean Sea, still the most popular voyage for cruisers. Last year, more than 17 million passengers took a North American cruise, up from seven million in 2000, according to the Cruise Lines International Association. [1]

Growing Giants of the Sea

Cruise ships have grown bigger and bigger in recent years as cruising has become ever more popular [2]

NYCEDC has finalized deal with Ports America to operate both terminals through 2029

Deal brings new capacity for larger vessels, lower operational costs, and new opportunities to attract cruise lines to New York City

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today announced the selection of Ports America to operate both Manhattan and Brooklyn Cruise Terminals through 2029. As part of the new agreement, Ports America has agreed to invest $38.5 million in capital improvements across both terminals, strengthening New York City’s position as one of the country’s premier cruise ports.

As part of the agreements, Ports America will be responsible for vessel berthing and stevedoring, maintenance, parking, security, billing, and additional operations at both terminals. Ports America will also provide ancillary services such as event management and military and yacht dockings.

The parent of Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line posted a smaller year over year profit in the first quarter. But revenue rose from a year ago, buoyed by increased onboard spending and higher ticket prices, the company announced Wednesday.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings generated net income of $61.9 million or 27 cents a share in the quarter compared with $73.2 million or 32 cents in the same period in 2016.

Revenue for the period rose 6.8 percent to $1.2 billion. [5]

The new $70 million cruise terminal building – which will be paid for by Royal Caribbean – includes a 36,000-square-foot check-in terminal, a 60,000-square-foot luggage area, a parking deck, additional parking and berth improvements. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed by October 2014.

Passenger volumes at the Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal have grown steadily in the past three years – from 393,000 passengers in 2010 to 476,000 in 2012. Passenger volumes at the facility are expected to increase to approximately 600,000 after the new terminal building opens. [8]

Theory:

The Cruise industry is in High Demand

What would it take to redevelop Atlantic City with expanding for the development of Cruise port for both NCL and Royal Caribbean following Carnival Cruise lines? Shipping ports and natural resources in high demand.

The advantages:

The bundle package may be incorporated with the existing hotels/ Casinos and tourism with Wildwood and Cape May County.

Easy access - by major highways Garden State parkway, Atlantic City Express Way,’

Cape May Ferry [perhaps a bundle pkg. For those using the ferry’s to cross over]

Other trail services along the Amtrak corridor from Trenton River line to PATCO and Maryland and Delaware areas would all be connected.

Rail Service from Philadelphia [along with the connection of Philadelphia Airport] connection with Atlantic City Airport

The result would draw traffic and vacationers to Atlantic City from all over NJ, Philadelphia, Maryland, Delaware and possibility a few outskirts cities.

Employment would be endless – between the Unions and skilled workers to construct it over the next five years - but the job growth and economical expansion for every business and the draw to bring new business into southern parts of NJ.

It’s possible that following counties including:

Atlantic Salem

Cape May Cumberland

Camden Gloucester

Burlington Ocean

Could see strong revenue growth and possible tax breaks and possibly not only stabilize but also increase the services through sales and its economical growth. The economical impact from by installing a large seaport would provide enough revenue to sustain the financial stability of NJ.

Not to mention the endless business incentives for redevelopment in rural areas of NJ.

The possibilities are endless… NYC is taking advantage of the growth along with Bayonne… why not develop an industry that returns 1000’s of jobs- with livable wages; that stabilizes taxes and redevelops existing locations.

The seaport would have an impact on AC to combined working with the casinos restoring the value and its attraction to bring families from all over.

First order of business – to restore the promise back to the people of Atlantic City, who were once advised back in 1974 of many promises, it’s time to pay it back.

Advance rail system from Philly to AC terminal

Advance rail system up the middle of the Garden State parkway to and along rt 195 from Trenton to Belmar/ Long Branch areas, loop down to AC to provide the best engineering transportation. Rail system electronic would haul passengers by day and merchandise by night to transport products and goods. Rail system would have a solar canopy along the entire route – generating both energy and the ability to sell back the energy collected.

The shipping terminal would be able to not only hold 6 passenger ships with room for 8.

The terminal would also include shipping ports to hold 10 shipping containerships to bring good and services and expanding beyond that would be adding N.J. National Gard to have a substation on site also working with the airport and grounds that in addition would also service the ports for various projects.

This would include the expansion to build large warehouses for industrial trade – Costco, Sams Club, BJ, Amazon just to name a few that would have the opportunity to develop large centers that would create a million jobs. From there the growth to the smaller chains, shopping centers and mom and pop owners would all benefit from it.

Funding proceeds would be added to build and create housing to attract new residents who would work nearby; the housing development would be for one and two bedroom units holding up to 500 residents building 6 developments in the area.

Additional resources include the expansion of wind and solar using natural resources to sell back to other states, creating more State revenue. With large development would include mass transit system overhaul. Getting people from residence to work and stops along the way of points of interest.

Municipalities along the way benefit bay receiving funding to grow their departments, administration and staff. Additional funding would be spent to schools, fire, ems systems the would be a set budget with restriction to cap the funding than allowing misuse of funds.

Not only would this be a multibillion dollar project the return is endless – the endless part starts with phase one of this project. Phase two would be connecting North Jersey to South Jersey with roadway improvements and a (Monorail System).

Additional Information

The Issues:

The Right to carry

- My plan, in order for an NJ resident wanting to carry. the applicant must be over 35 years of age, mentally stable, healthy willing to become a part of NJ Peace Officer program. A peace officer is there to aide and assists various departments when on-call or in need.* applicants will be required for their own out-of-pocket cost for all training and insurance. Limited access by lottery selection, Military preference, and the Right to Protect Order by Judge may be issued regarding certain restraining orders. More details to follow

Women's Rights

Abortion comes up often, I will not allow the government to make the choices for a woman's body and rights. However, in certain circumstances - a recommendation from several specialists may make a recommendation on a case-by-case basis. Otherwise, I can not make that choice or decision on behalf of the woman. Simply, it's not my place to do so - more to follow.

Immigration,

We need a program to indoctrinate the opportunity for those who wish to come here for a better life and opportunity. Let's have a gateway program for asylum and career goals including counseling in various departments and on the level. Establishes programs to allow a person alone or with family to be fully processed upon the path towards citizenship as an NJ Tax Payer.
